The Arnold Clark Cup, featuring England Women, is to be fully broadcast on ITV, which includes Germany, Spain and Canada, taking place at stadiums across England.
Next month, the new international women’s football tournament will be presented on the channel by Laura Woods with punditry from guests Ian Wright and Eni Aluko, with commentary from Seb Hutchinson and Co-Commentator Emma Hayes, as well as Reporter, Katie Shanahan.
On the new deal, Woods commented: “The Arnold Clark Cup offers an exciting opportunity to see England take on top level opposition at a crucial stage in what is a huge year for them as they continue their World Cup qualification campaign, and be tested in a tournament as they build towards this summer’s Euros where they’re the host nation.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing them in action in front of home crowds in what promises to be tough matches.”
Moreso, matches, including England vs Germany, England vs Spain and England vs Canada, will be shown across ITV, ITV4 and the ITV Hub.
The deal looks to further enhance ITV’s portfolio of top sports rights, which includes exclusive live coverage of the England men’s and England women’s football team, the FA Cup, the Six Nations, the Rugby World Cup, Premiership Rugby, horse racing and the Tour de France.
According to a survey by YouGov released last year, almost seven in ten Britons support equal media coverage of both men’s and women’s sport, with only 15% who were opposed to the idea, whilst women were slightly more supportive at 72% to 66% men.
However, only a quarter stated that they want to see more women’s sport even if that means less attention on the men’s, and around the same proportion think an increase is only acceptable if it doesn’t affect male sports coverage.
